What does it mean to be a borrower?

As a borrower, you have access to our extensive collection of resources. This includes our physical collection and the library's extensive collection of  online resources.

Physical Collection

Being a borrower also means that the library will loan you items from our physical collection so long as you return them on time and in the condition that they were loaned. Borrowers need to be good stewards and considerate of others who may be waiting for items to be returned. Please be intentional about returning items on time and make sure no damage comes to an item while its in your care.

Online Resources

Our digital library offers 24/7 access to books, audiobooks, scholarly database, career resources, and many other online tools. You can explore these resources conveniently from any location by visiting our website at davidsondavie.edu/library

Do I need a card to borrow?

If you plan to borrow from the library's physical collection, you need a physical library card. Davidson-Davie Community College students and employees need their college identification card, also known as a ConnectCard, to borrow from the library. If a student is ineligible for a college identification card, the library will issue a borrower card at no cost.

Library cards for community members are free and issued at any campus library. Community members must present their library card when borrowing physical items.

Borrowers do NOT have to obtain a physical card to get access to the library's online resources.

When does my borrower account expire?

Borrower accounts for students, employees, and community members expire after two years and may be renewed for an additional two years by contacting the library.

How many items can I borrow at one time?

From our physical collection, two items may be borrowed at a time. Reserve items placed on hold by Davidson-Davie Community College faculty are exempt from the limit.

How long can I borrow an item?

The loan period for one of the library's physical items is 30 days. You may renew an item for an additional 30 days by calling the library at (336) 224-4727 or emailing the library at library@davidsondavie.edu. Renewed items must be returned to the library at the end of the renewal period.

What if I don't return my item on time?

Every item returned late potentially keeps someone from enjoying it. For borrowers with overdue items, borrowing privileges are suspended until the items are returned. In the event that a borrower's privileges are suspended, they may continue to use the library's online resources.
